Américain, il servait dans les rangs de la R.A.F. Il avait déjà effectué 4 missions au-dessus de Dieppe le 19 août 1942. Il avait achevé le processus pour permettre son transfert de la RAF à l’USAAF.

Joined RAFVR, assigned to 133S, along with the rest of Sqn flew 4 x missions over Dieppe 19-Aug-42. Shot down on escort mission over France. 6-Sep-42. Killed in action (KIA).

Burley War Pilot Killed in action

BURLEY, Ida., Dec. 18
Pilot Officer Dick D. GUDMUNDSEN of the R.A.F., whose wife lives here, was killed in action over Germany. September 6, the International Rd Cross informed Mrs. GUDMUNDSEN.
The pilot had successfully completed tests preparatory to being transferred to the U.S. Army Air Corps not long defore his death.
He is survived in addition to his widow, by a young son, a brother, Dr. Max GUDMUNDSEN of the army medical corps, and a sister Lausanne GUDMUNDSEN of Salt Lake City


Le Pilot Officer Dick D. GUDMUNDSEN, de la Royal Air Force (RAF), dont l'épouse réside ici, a été tué au combat au-dessus de l'Allemagne. Le 6 septembre, la Croix-Rouge internationale a informé Mme GUDMUNDSEN de son décès.
Peu de temps avant sa mort, le pilote avait réussi les tests préparatoires à son transfert au sein de l'US Army Air Corps.
Outre son épouse, il laisse dans le deuil un jeune fils, un frère, le docteur Max GUDMUNDSEN, médecin militaire, et une sœur, Lausanne GUDMUNDSEN, de Salt Lake City.
