Bien que la commune d'Esmery-Hallon se situe dans l'extrême Est du département de la Somme, près de la ville d'Ham, de part la mission dévolue à cet équipage dans le département de l'Aisne (?) opération S.O.E., c'est dans la partie du Forum consacrée au département de l'Aisne que j'ai choisi de classer ce sujet.

En mission pour le compte du S.O.E. afin d'effectuer un parachutage d'armes et de matériel, le quadrimoteur s'écrase sur le territoire de d'Esmery-Hallon à 16 kilomètres à l'Est-Nord-Est de Roye (Somme).


T/o 2243 Lakenheath and set course for France. Fell victim to a night-fighter, crashing near Esmery-Hallon (Somme), 16 km ENE of Roye, where six were buried on 12 April in the New British Cemetery. Sgt. KEMP is commemorated on panel 232 of the Runnymede Memorial. F/S LINDHARD, a Dane, was the son of professor Erik and Agnes LINDHARD of Copenhagen.

L'appareil décolla de Lakenheath à 22 h 43 et mit le cap sur la France. Il fut abattu par un chasseur de nuit et s'écrasa près d'Esmery-Hallon (Somme), à ​​16 km à l'est-nord-est de Roye, où six membres de l'équipage furent inhumés le 12 avril au cimetière militaire britannique. Le sergeant KEMP est commémoré sur le panneau 232 du mémorial de Runnymede. Le bombardier Stirling Mk. III s/n LK382 - OJ # Q appartenant au 149 Squadron de la R.A.F East India.
Le quadrimoteur effectue une mission S.O.E. (Special Operations Executive) dédiée au soutien de la Résistance intérieure en France. L'avion décolle de la base de Lakenheath, Suffolk (Grande Bretagne) à 22 h. 43. Mais dans la nuit (10 avril 1944) au retour de sa mission, l'avion est victime de la traque des chasseurs de nuit de la Luftwaffe Me 110.
