SOMME Nuit du 10 au 11 décembre 1943 Deux avions abattus Dans la nuit de vendredi à samedi, la D.C.A. a abattu deux bombardiers anglais au dessus de Doullens. Le premier appareil et tombé en flammes au lieudit " Le Calvaire Foch ". Les six occupants ont été carbonisés. Le second a percuté sur le territoire de Terramesnil. Deux des occupants ont été tués ; les autres sont prisonniers. Le Progrès de la Somme, numéro 23149, 14 décembre 1943 259PER308 Archives de la Somme Pour ce dernier quadrimoteur il s'agit d'un AVRO LANCASTER type BI/BIII du 617 Squadron immatriculé s/n ED886 AJ # O Il agit dans le cadre d'une mission SOE. Il s'écrase à Terramesnil dans la nuit. Il avait décollé de la base de Tempsford dans la soirée du 10 décembre (21 h 12). Le radio/mitrailleur (sergeant) John McLean STEWART et le mitrailleur W/O2 Donald Menzies THORPE décèdent au cours de cette mission. Les autres membres de l'équipage sont faits prisonniers mais un parviendra à s'échapper. Pris en charge par des réseaux de résistants, il réussira à regagner l'Angleterre par l'Espagne (F/sergeant J H McWILLIAMS). While trying to establish a pinpoint between Boulogne and St-Pol, the Lancaster was hit by flak and crashed in Terramesnil (Somme), 6 km SSE of Doullens.
